Mo' Nique Molested By Her Brother!

Oscar-winning actress Mo’Nique was molested by her brother when they were children and Gerald Imes went on Oprah to apologize. Read more on this story below.
Gerald Imes made an appearance on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” stating that the molestation lasted a year or two, beginning when he was 13 and Mo’Nique was around 7 years-old.
“I abused and betrayed the trust of another sibling, my sister, my blood sister,” Imes said. He apologized to the actress, saying “I’m sorry, Mo’Nique. I’m sorry.”
Imes wanted to appear on Oprah’s show to apologize and hopefully bring their family closer. Gerald said he was molested as a child too and began using drugs and drinking at the age of 11.
“Hopefully somewhere, somehow as siblings we can come back together as brother and sister,” he said.
Mo’Nique has addressed the molestation in previous interviews, but didn’t wish to be a part of the interview.
“She said if your expressing what you had done to her could save one family then it would be worth it,” Winfrey told Imes.
Mo’Nique’s mother and father also appeared on the show. Her mother, Alice Imes said, “It was such a heartbreaking thing to accept.”
Mo’Nique recently won an Academy Award for her role in “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire.”
